One small note - although Dahl famously blamed Geoffrey Fisher for that cruel caning, it came out later that Fisher had in fact left Repton by the time Dahl was a student there - it was actually his successor John Christie who administered that particular bout of bum torture! Dahl refused to apologise for the mistake even after confronted with the facts.. just proving the fact that he had never gotten over the emotional scarring of the experience.
